# Action vs Maisons du Monde : deux destins opposés du retail français

Au milieu des années 2010, on aurait parié sur Maisons du Monde — déco tendance, boutiques léchées, entrée en Bourse réussie. Action, le hard-discount néerlandais arrivé en France en 2012, vendait des bricoles à moins de 2 €. Dix ans plus tard, **les comptes déposés au greffe ont rendu un verdict sans appel.**

## La croissance, en base 100

Les deux enseignes ne jouent pas dans la même cour de taille — Action pèse plusieurs milliards, Maisons du Monde moins d'un. Pour comparer leurs **trajectoires** plutôt que leurs volumes, voici leur chiffre d'affaires ramené à une base 100 sur la première année commune :

Le contraste est brutal. Pendant qu'Action **multiplie son chiffre d'affaires par 8,2** (de 0,6 à 5,3 milliards d'euros), Maisons du Monde fait quasiment du surplace, puis **recule** : son CA retombe autour de 804 M€ sur le dernier exercice.

Non seulement Action grossit, mais **chaque euro de croissance reste rentable** : le résultat net progresse exercice après exercice. Le modèle — petits prix, rotation énorme, coûts serrés, ouvertures de magasins en série — tourne comme une horloge.

Longtemps très profitable, Maisons du Monde a vu ses bénéfices fondre, puis **basculer dans le rouge** sur le dernier exercice (environ 39 M€ de perte). La déco et l'ameublement, très exposés au moral des ménages et au coût du transport, ont encaissé de plein fouet le retournement post-Covid — exactement quand le discount, lui, profitait de la chasse aux prix bas.

## La leçon

1. **Le positionnement compte plus que l'image.** Le « moche mais pas cher » a écrasé le « beau mais cher » sur la période.
2. **Comparez des trajectoires, pas des montants bruts.** La base 100 révèle ce qu'une simple courbe de CA en euros aurait masqué derrière l'écart de taille.
3. **Une première perte après des années de profit est un signal fort** — à recroiser avec l'endettement et la trésorerie avant de conclure.
