This operated system requires a caller to submit their account or card number upon dialling, before giving the option of contacting a member of staff. Although callers would therefore be expected to be existing customers, there are two sets of opening times for this number. Existing customers have access to a 24 hour, 7 day a week phone service. However, new customers can only contact the bank in the marginally smaller time frame of Monday – Friday, 8am-8pm, Saturday, 8am – 6pm, and Sunday, 9am -5pm. Bank of Scotland has one of the better customer services teams in my opinion, and having to use an automated service before speaking to a real-life person is sadly a common occurrence. Thankfully, when in contact with this person, the responses are attentive and able to cover a host of customer queries.
